Houston community supports public schools in Pakistan

HOUSTON: Pakistani singer and education advocate Shehzad Roy joined Zindagi Trust’s annual fundraising dinner at the Marquee Event Center, where supporters gathered to back the organization’s work in Pakistan. The program began later than scheduled, but its central message was clear: improving children’s lives requires lasting improvements in public schools.
Roy, the founder of Zindagi Trust, has used his public profile to champion education reform. The organization works with government schools in Karachi, including SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School. Its approach reaches beyond classroom lessons to include teacher development, nutritious breakfasts, counseling, life skills, arts, sports and coding.
The trust also advocates changes across the wider school system. Its work has supported stronger teacher evaluations and child protection measures, including efforts against corporal punishment. For Houston supporters, the fundraising dinner offered an opportunity to contribute to those efforts and to a broader goal: giving children in Pakistan a safer, more engaging place to learn.
Roy’s appearance brought attention to the cause, while the photograph of him speaking at the podium captures the evening’s focus on education. The fundraiser connected the Pakistani American community with practical work being carried out in Pakistan’s public schools.
