ISLAMABAD, September 25: Uncertainty surrounds Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned march on Islamabad after a party leader suggested it could be postponed if the government accepted key demands. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram, however, rejected the suggestion that postponement was under discussion and said only party founder Imran Khan could make that decision.
Advocate Naeem Haider Panjutha said the party could reconsider the September 27 protest if the government committed to elections within six to eight months, secured the release of Imran Khan and other political prisoners through legal process, and investigated the events of May 9 and November 26. Akram said there had been no concrete government offer and maintained that the march would proceed.
Security preparations are continuing despite the mixed signals. The federal government has authorised the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad and several Punjab districts, while barriers have been placed on routes leading towards the capital. The dispute has raised concern about travel disruption as the planned protest approaches.
For now, PTI has not announced a postponement. The party’s final decision, any response from the government and the situation on access roads will determine what happens over the weekend.
