NAGOYA: Pakistan’s men’s hockey team continued its strong Asian Games campaign with a 3–0 victory over China on Thursday. It was Pakistan’s third win in three matches, strengthening the team’s position in the pool stage.
China created early opportunities but could not convert two penalty corners. Pakistan also missed chances before taking control of the contest and securing a clean-sheet victory. The result gives the team momentum as it pursues a place in the knockout rounds.
Pakistan had mixed results elsewhere at the Games. Its squash players continued their progress, but the kabaddi team’s campaign ended after a 51–30 defeat to Iran. Boxer Maria Rind was also eliminated from the women’s 51kg competition.
The hockey win is the main positive for Pakistan from Thursday’s action. Three consecutive victories show consistency, but the team still has work ahead as the competition gets tougher. Its next matches will determine whether this promising pool-stage run turns into a medal challenge.
